Description

  • We are now looking for molecular biology/biochem background mid-career researchers to join us to accelerate our R&D work.
  • Collaborating can be initially performed under the REDI fellowship program and further under Cooperative Research Centres Projects (CRC-P, up to 3Y)
  • The initial subject involved in such collaboration can be the development of metabolite (e.g. phosphate, acetate ion) removal subsystems for CFPS+, and then can go deeper into the R&D of the core system after establishing a stable relationship.

Background

General Molecular Expression Service Pty Ltd（GMES, a subsidiary of Holocyte） is a newly incorporated startup based at Uni. of Adelaide's Waite campus, developing the world's leading cell-free protein expression system (CFPS+, a novel low-cost and efficient universal protein expression platform), this is fascinating and revolutionary cutting-edge work with significant scientific and economic value. We now can produce the most efficient static CFPS kit and are developing a dynamic CFPS+ system for efficient expression at scale. Although the new company just incorporated, it has already received startup membership support from the Thermo Fisher, and entrepreneur grant from the Dassault system and engaged in international collaboration with top research groups and companies of our field.

Business of GMES

  • Expressing proteins or functional macromolecules using model plant or bacterial cells such as yeast or E. coli, as well as upgraded cell-free protein expression systems (CFPS+) developing by ourselves.
  • The peptides expressed are used as feedstock for our high-performance materials.
  • Functional proteins or macromolecules are expressed for medical applications.

In short, GMES develops

  • Protein mass-expression platform (mostly focus on next-generation low-cost CFPS)
  • Functional macromolecules for material science & medical use

Working environment

  • Our working environment is very similar to the research group in the university
  • Initial R&D work can be carried out in Holocyte's lab, which is located within Waite Campus of Uni. of Adelaide.
  • Remote work can be considered If the scholar has adequate facilities.

The team

  • Tocvic M - background in chemical physics, experiences in molecular genetics research, materials science, experiences in corporate finance. Co-founder of Holocyte.
  • Mamoru O - background in plant molecular biology and a former research fellow of UoA.
  • Several graduates of UoA

Role

  • Scholars will need to take charge of the R&D of subsystems for CFPS+, required to be personally involved in R&D experiments.

Requirements

  • Candidates should be researchers employed by Australian universities, medical research institutes, hospitals and technology transfer organisations. Eligible for the Researcher Exchange and Development within Industry (REDI) Program.
  • Molecular biology, Biochemistry, Genetics and Medical science background, PhD
  • Familiar with molecular biology, protein expression technologies, including constructing vector & plasmid, designing primers, transfection, protein purification and other related operations.
  • Familiar with model plant or bacterial cells, and cell-free protein expression systems to express proteins with artificially designed sequences.
  • Familiarity with protein structure prediction.
  • Solid knowledge of biochemical analysis and operations.
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry analysis and operations.
  • Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident only

Salary and Benefits

  • A salary of up to AUD 250,000 p.a. will be provide by the REDI fellowship program, whilst it might be finally decided by the program.

Job Type:

  • 12 months full time; OR
  • 12 months where the Fellow spends 50% of time working with the company.
  • Contract length: 12 months
